Indonesia growth at 15-year high

JAKARTA: South-east Asia's largest economy grew by 6.5 per cent last year, its central statistics agency (BPS) said yesterday, capping weeks of upbeat updates on the economic front.


The pace of growth is Indonesia's strongest in 15 years, and comes as a result of robust domestic consumption driven by a growing middle class and record foreign investment.


The country's exports also soared to a record US$204 billion (S$254 billion) last year - an impressive 29 per cent increase from the year before - although exports weakened in the last three months of the year amid a global slowdown...
